Yeah, but the scene was about blackmailing a girl who'd struggled with bulimia to eat a whole batch of cupcakes (complete with appropriate taunts from teen boys), etc.

So yeah, the cupcakes are cute and delicious looking, but the scene itself is heartbreaking.

I just said this above, but:

A girl (who used to struggle a lot with self esteem/weight issues and an eating disorder) was forced to eat them all in public by her evil, sadistic stalker, for money her family desperately needed (because her mother stole it from a bank, and then her evil stalker stole it from her mother).

It was pretty upsetting.

Cutest cupcakes ever. Most upsetting scene on the show ever.

I just came out of that scene wanting red velvet cupcakes. :/ Then again, I've never had an eating disorder so this probably makes me a bad/insensitive person.

Yes, cruel to the character and uncomfortable to watch. But unless you have, have had or are nearing an eating disorder, put on your big girl (or big boy) pants and deal with it.

Why does it make a difference if I've had an eating disorder or not? I can't just sympathize with the character? If you had to have experienced everything the character has in order to feel for them or connect with them, a lot of TV shows would be shit outta luck as far as keeping the audience caring.

Of course you're meant to feel something and sympathize with them. That's the point. But "sympathizing" and being so emotionally distraught you have to come make a secret like this about it are two different things. So, yeah, learn to deal.

Maybe for some people making a secret isn't a big deal?

IDK, I just don't see "having to make a secret about it" as showing someone is particularly over reacting (esp. since their reason for it being a secret appears not to be because it was SO devastating, but because they're embarrassed about being moved by a show a lot of people think is silly).

I never said I was devastated and I never said I couldn't deal with what happened. That scene was just a particularly rough situation and I felt really bad for Hanna. I made a secret about it because I wanted to share my thoughts about it with other fans and see what they thought, and f!s is the easiest way I knew to do that.

LOL where are you getting all this from? The OP is emotionally distraught... relative to their feelings about other television shows. No one is comparing this to a death of a family member or anything.

Uh, secrets aren't always a big deal. They can be about little things :/

sheesh, you need to relax.

I mean you know A is a psycho bitch to begin with but that was beyond words. Definitely one of the most cruel things A did. I felt so bad for Hanna, especially since she's such a sweetheart.
