And IIRC doesn't Card Captor Sakura have a similar relationship in it between Rika and Mr. Terada, their teacher? And isn't it taken more seriously and not played mostly for lulz like this series is? (Though Kodomo No Jikan looks pretty damn awful, NGL.) That series is pretty popular and I don't see as many people being called out as pedophiles for liking it as adults. Granted, it's not the focus of the series but it is there.

Rika and her teacher have a mutual, innocent, romatic relationship that isn't really focused on.

Rin in Kodomo no Jikan tries to molest/be molested by her teacher on a regular basis, acting out provocotively because A) she is going through puberty and B) emotional bordering on sexual abuse from her guardian. It's true that her accosting her teacher is played for laughs half the time, but a lot of her cries for attention are just heartbreaking and pretty serious.

I don't think they're very similar.

The problem is that KNJ has emotionally devastating writing coupled with loli fanservice art, and it's understandably difficult for people to look past the latter.

I guess you're right that they aren't really similar, but I wouldn't really call Rika and Terada-sensei's relationship "innocent" since she's like ten years old. Maybe the love she has for her teacher is innocent but for the teacher to reciprocate that is highly inappropriate to say the least, even if the relationship isn't a physical one

While I am a Kojikan fan, this statement kind of confused me. BnP's "main" genre (shota) is just a genderflipped version of KnJ's, and KnJ wasn't created for the sole purpose of fanservice like BnP was.

I could go into how the first Pico OVA was actually sort of depressing, but since I'm a dirty, horrible fujoshi I won't waste anyone's time...

Just throwing this out there, because my knowledge of both series is second-hand, but is there a significant difference between a series where loli/shota activity is always being teased as on the edge of happening, and one where the loli/shota activity actually happens? Because it's my impression that KnJ actually teases with the posssibility that it could happen but BnP has it actually happening, and I can understand why someone who has a kink morally troubling to them might fan big over a series that teases the kink but be revulsed by actual delivery.

I was under the impression that there is actual sex between an adult and a child in BnP, while in KnJ, no explicit sex every takes place, just LOL ECCHI SITUATIONS or whatever. But feel free to correct me if that's not the case, after all, I haven't seen either and don't intend to.

Are you primarily or exclusively interested in banging eight-year-olds? If not, you're not a pedophile.

That was my reaction when reading the secret. If your enjoyment of a show with loli/shota content is described as "I find it funny" then that doesn't sound like a pedophile to me.
