[Harold Lloyd]

(Anonymous) 2011-07-13 12:53 am (UTC)(link)
Oh my gosh, yes. Harold Lloyd's movies are everything that's great about silent films.

And to be fair, it's really difficult not to develop a serious crush on the Glasses Character.

A silent comedy secret! Awesome!

I wished Harold Lloyd and Buster Keaton both got more recognition because I feel like all I ever hear about is "Chaplin was so amazing! Chaplin was a visionary! Chaplin was just the greatest! Chaplin Chaplin Chaplin Chaplin CHAPLIN." Seriously, I think Lloyd's and Keaton's routines were funnier, and they were all working around the same time, so Chaplin isn't that original.

I think to an extent, even Chaplin acknowledged that, as he considered Max Linder (who predated them all) to be "his teacher".

However, you're definitely right in that Lloyd and Keaton deserve more recognition. Overall, I enjoy them both far more than Cahplin, too.

Chaplin was good and especially "the last Dictator" is quite impressive, but when it comes to silent films, personally I always preferred Keaton and Lloyd.

I LOVE HAROLD LLOYD SO MUCH ♥

OMG! I watched Girl Shy once to get an understanding of what films were like in the 1920s (I RP characters from that era...yeah, I know) and I adored it. I really should check out Harold Lloyd's other films.

I highly recommend The Freshman and Safety Last!

Nothing wrong with RPing old characters. In fact, it's pretty awesome. :)

What characters are these?

[identity profile] impurrfectprof.livejournal.com 2011-07-14 01:09 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, whoops, I phrased that wrong--it's a canon that's set in that era, but the fandom itself is only about a decade old. It's a manga (and an anime, but I don't play from that version) called Chrono Crusade. It's actually not super-accurate to the time period, but I still like to try to keep my facts straight.

[identity profile] smokingguncafe.livejournal.com 2011-07-13 03:55 am (UTC)(link)
He's so adorable in those glasses, but I actually find it interesting to see how far his character goes to conceal the fact that he as an actor had a fake hand.

[identity profile] blackshadowcat.livejournal.com 2011-07-13 08:07 am (UTC)(link)
Well it wasn't his whole hand, just his thumb and I think a bit of his index finger, but I admit I spend a lot of extra time watching his hand and watching him conceal it too.

[identity profile] singeaddams.livejournal.com 2011-07-13 02:33 pm (UTC)(link)
What? Really? That I did not know. It makes his dangling from a clock ten billion feet in the air even more fantastic!

[identity profile] wonderbink.livejournal.com 2011-07-17 02:12 am (UTC)(link)
IIRC, it was the "dangling from a clock ten billion feet in the air" incident that damaged his hand and caused him to conceal it for the rest of his career.

?!?!?! Poor Harold!

[identity profile] glasgowsmiles.livejournal.com 2011-07-13 08:57 am (UTC)(link)
Marry me.

... I should stop proposing to people via F!S, but I never thought I'd see a Harold Lloyd secret!

This is a wonderful secret and you are fantastic, OP.
