i don't even get what there is to complain about here... you kind of refuted your own point with the smaller text, and there are some anime that do make the distinction between races; they tend to be more "serious".

sorry. In my eighties cartoon you could always tell the 'Americans/English'. They were the ones with the tiny eyes, the mediocre hair, and the slightly bass ass attitude.

Meh, it's a cartoon. The anime style has always been very...well, stylized. It's not really supposed to look like ANY race.

That being said, they definitely need to knock it off with the stereotypes of black people. Why can't they just draw black people as looking like Nadia or something?

Bleach has plenty of dark-skinned characters that look pretty awesome, but then again, Bleach is a bit less stylized than the anime depicted in the secret. It's got a bit more of a realistic artstyle, proportions-wise and the like.

See Shihouin Yoruichi, Tousen Kaname, Zommari, Mila-Rose, and Don Kanonji (maybe Kanonji's just very tan with dreadlocks and full lips. I have no idea.)

Pokemon has Iris and Aloe, the latter whose design was changed when they realized people might find her apron offensive (she's a motherly-type character: that with the apron made her come off as "mammy"-like in the first design).

So, they're changing. A bit slowly, but still.

I agree with the part about black people being drawn as caricatures (and what do you expect from a country that's pretty damn racist?), but the general similarities between characters is a given in anime.

Uh, I had some article explaining that but I can't find it now so I have to paraphrase, ok? Don't take it for the end all etc.
When you make cartoons you simplify things, right? Depending on how much you do it, you can come up with templates that are pretty simple and not supposed to represent reality, so you can get stick figures or just the chibi styles in anime. Now, if you want to show different characters you change small things on that or give them objects to identify them. They also serve as part of the characterisation since they indicate hobbies, interests, outlooks, social status (clothing?).
Now, if you want to indentify someone with a distinctive genetic background you use stereotypes and represent them in the template. Some of these can be pretty offensive and have fallen out of use like crooked nose for Jews, big lips on characters with darker skin etc..
But (and this is the important part) stereotypes vary depending on what culture you're in. In some European countries anybody who is not "white" could be seen as a foreigner. In the US you can't just assume the origin of the person depending on the body type. But both areas have one thing in common: Without markers that standard template would represent somebody with white background.
So, in anime standard template is an Asian character or even just Japanese. Even if they have green hair. They have historical different markers than us: blond is the typical foreign hair colour, based on the European traders from Portugal and especially the Netherlands. Every other physical difference is implied in that, you don't have to show it.
TL;DR: Different countries have different stereotypes for others and make use of them. It's just simplified.

OP's point wasn't "why do all anime characters look caucasian?" It was "why can't caucasian anime characters look different from the asian ones?"

The answer is moe/sameface, as stated above.

But - and I know that this is cited all the damn time as the exception to the anime rule - Monster sure gives good facial diversity.

Seriously though. You can either nitpick about petty anime art annoyances, or sit back and watch some little girls fly around with metal legs and no pants.

I was more going for the answer they do look different but use different stereotypes(tall, blond) which may not overlap with what anon is familiar to code it.

Well, it's anime style, your examples use a very simplified style. No detailed work on eyes, nose, etc.
In Japan, light eyes and hair are already a sign for being foreign, so in a simple style, that's what shows the reader/watcher where the character is from (except for those animes where they don't give a damn about hair colours - for example, they can also have green or pink hair etc.).

Agreeing with you on the black characters, though. Not only that black characters are rather rare in anime, it's also the way they look.
