I was just having this conversation the other day, or at least part of it. I was talking about why Justin Timberlake was so much more successful than Brit-Brit, and it's because he's constantly updating himself and doing bigger and better things (his solo career, acting on TV and film, etc), and Brit's just been playing the same fucking note since the late 90's. She's not 17 anymore, she needs to be portrayed as a woman instead of jailbait.

In terms of pop music, she's held on pretty long and that's no easy task in that genre. It's always about the next big thing. If she a serious artist? No. But in pop she does deserve respect for hanging in there.

I believe we should all be allowed to dress as we like. If still wants to rock the "younger" looks, she should. Yes, a mature look is classy on anyone of any age, but, again, it's all about choice and being who you are.

This. I'm tired of hearing people say that someone should, "Dress their age," and things like that. What the fuck does that even mean? Is she wearing a diaper?!

I mean, I don't think she looks good. But her personal style is her business.

I have to wonder, though, whether it really is how she wants to look, or if it's what she's being pressured to do. Britney has never really struck me as having a terribly strong personality, and she has always seemed to be very easily led rather than making her own decisions. If she wants to dress that way professionally, then more power to her. If it's her publicity machine that's pressuring her to keep that look, then I pity her. It seems like her entire life has been just one controller after another.

Late response: but yeah, that's how I meant it. It seems to me, very strongly, that it's the marketing team around her deciding she should still be a pop princess, not her. People can dress however they want, of course - I also dress "younger", but in a way that suits me. But in her case it seems the marketing is hanging on to her look as a 17-year-old starlet, and it's sort of sad. And she could dress sexy still - but more flattering to the person she is today.
