Wait, how do we know that it is because of the Doctor that Amy and Rory aren't able to raise River themselves? We don't know what happened yet. I figured he tried but wasn't able to get her back but you make it sound like he left River in the hands of the Eye-patch Lady on purpose.

If anything- just from watching AGMGTW- I think it'd be more of the Eye-Patch lady's fault that Amy and Rory wouldn't get to raise their own daughter.

I mean, I guess it is the Doctor's fault in as much as if they weren't his companions, their child wouldn't have a time head, but they (especially Amy) were very active about choosing to go with him, so...

Meh. I don't really see "because of the Doctor" as in "it's his fault". Our life is shaped by our choices, and is changed by the people we choose as our friends. Being with the Doctor has never been a risk-free endeavor and most companions know and accept that. They accept it because they gain the universe and all of time in return.
In the end, bad thing happen, sometimes because of the company you keep, but that does not mean you should make your choices otherwise.

I'm more troubled by Amy being used as a timelord incubator, tbh.

Moffat, this is the one time I will approve of your use of timey-wimey stuff to allow the Doctor to go back and fix it so Amy and Rory get to raise River.

I don't blame the Doctor for the baby being taken, but I gotta admit, it's more than a little squicky, the child of two companions apparently turning into the Doctor's perfect fantasy mistress. I gagged when Eleven got so excited once he figured out the little baby was River, with whom he's implied to have a sexual relationship with at some point, and apparently will first meet when she's young and impressionable, which will result in her entire life becoming defined by her encounters with him. I really really hope there's another twist coming that makes this more palatable, or else I've gotta say Moff really is oblivious to the grossness of his own gender issues ("A Christmas Carol" makes me rather unhopeful, what with Abigail not mattering at all as a person in her own right, but merely serving as a catalyst for male angst).

This storyline does make the end of The Big Bang a lot less pleasant, though, doesn't it? Next time I watch it, I'll probably be shouting, "No, stay home, so your daughter doesn't get abducted, horribly abused and raised as a weapon!"

YES!! This is honestly the first time I've seen someone share my negative opinion on River and the Doctor being a couple/having a sexual relationship.

I don't see it, and I don't think it's going to happen. River/Doctor fans can stay pressed. :| humpf.
