Yeah, it actually starts at the end of A Game of Thrones over in the Riverlands where we can't "see" it, but the most horrible shit goes in throughout A Clash of Kings and even continues on into A Storm of Swords. ~.~

What the hell corners of fandom are you hanging out in, anon? The places I am, most of us have read all the books or are reading all the books, and there's no Bolton fangirling or Qyburn fangirling that I know of.

There is plenty of Visery's fangirling. I side-eye those fans.

I mostly mean kink!memeish types of things that tend to come about, since that's usually where people enjoy latching onto the more violent, sadistic, and generally cruel and perverse types of characters at--not always of course, and depending on the fandom, but often.

I don't expect them to be all that popular (unless Roose Bolton is going to be played by a really sexy actor), but they seemed emblematic of character types that tend to be really popular in other fandoms I've been in. *shrug* And the Viserys fangasming and general overlooking of how many male characters treat, use, and abuse women that I've seen hasn't been terribly inspiring.

Admittedly though, I haven't stuck my feet in too deep into fandom yet as the books have been really fulfilling for me, so I haven't really wanted to. haha.

Okay, I read your secret, but it still is vague what you meant when they react to the word rape. Some people are okay or can tolerate fictional rape, some can't! GASP. It doesn't change the opinion that those people have on real rape.

Now, if these people are easily squeaked by fanfiction rape scenes, or get angry at the lack of a trigger warning and read GoT, theeeeeeeeennnnnn yeah they are hypocrites.

I think they are mostly referring to the holier-than-thou types who lecture about rape culture, and go on about how awful the flippant use of 'rape' is--you know, the dogpilers--who go on to fangasm GoT hardcore, and overlook all of that because omg Viserys and Theon are hot!!1! or something similar.
