the ancient greeks had different words for love, kind of the way Eskimos do for snow. I kind of wish we still had that in our languages. It would take the cheap out of 'I love pizza' love and put the special in 'I love my mother/husband/car that keeps running no matter how often I forget to service it'.

That would sort of be awesome, but I suspect that love - even if well-defined - is just very difficult to put into words.

Absolute agreement. The deep-hearted things usually are. I could just be able to stop twitching when someone declared passionately 'I LOVE pineapples!'

(but I agree that it would be nice to have more specific levels of love in English :3)

FYI, the word Eskimo is kind of offensive depending on who you're talking about. Natives in Alaska seem to be fine with it but in the Canadian territories and Greenland it's really fallen out of favour. Most people these days prefer Inuit. (Not here to cause wank, I just have a huge knee-jerk reaction to that word.)
