I used to have a similar issue with a particular song. Every time I had to hear it, I just felt like I was going to fucking throw up or pass out. Eventually, I decided that I just refused to let a song have that sort of power over me, and I sat down and forced myself to listen to it over and over.
I guess I desensitized myself to it...? And then I learned to like the song on its own terms/my terms, and I barely ever think about the first time I heard it.
Granted, that's a bit different from a whole anime series. But everyone is telling you not to do it, and...I'm not saying "do it," but I just wanted to offer another data point. It's your decision, do what you feel is best.
