I don't have actors, like, 100% locked in, which is kinda surprising since Johnny Depp is a popular choice for Crowley and he is kinda my #1 favorite human of them all. I have a few different people I like for each one, and can easily be convinced by others. ("Underneath It All" by No Doubt, however, is unquestionably Their Song to me.)

[identity profile] tiger-pause.livejournal.com 2011-07-21 01:21 am (UTC)(link)
Same. I really hope they go for unknowns when it comes to making the series.

[identity profile] feanorian.livejournal.com 2011-07-21 03:52 am (UTC)(link)
Even though i do have a Cast (who are now alas too old for the roles), that's mostly for inspiration. If they do make the series for real this time, I want unknowns.

(Anonymous) 2011-07-21 01:23 am (UTC)(link)
I never have actor choices for books I read. Honestly, 9 times out of 10, my answer would be that I'd prefer an unknown.

[identity profile] tayles.livejournal.com 2011-07-21 01:32 am (UTC)(link)
You're not the only one. I really can't see anyone playing any of the cast perfectly.

[identity profile] corsiva.livejournal.com 2011-07-21 01:35 am (UTC)(link)
You're definitely not the only one, anon.

[identity profile] darkangel-wings.livejournal.com 2011-07-21 01:40 am (UTC)(link)
While I don't hate the idea of it being adapted to a movie/series/etc, I've never understood how everyone in the fandom has a "cast" for them. I've certainly seen that in other fandoms, but never so frequently as with the two of them. So you aren't alone in not having a cast for them.

(Anonymous) 2011-07-21 01:56 am (UTC)(link)
I'm sort of with you, OP. I don't particularly "see" any actors when I think of the cast from this book, nor am I sure it will make a stellar tv adapation. I am 100000% willing to take a chance on it, though, because there have been some excellent tv miniseries out lately and there's a distinct possibility an adaptation would add in more scenes of characters I'd have loved to see more done with.

I will, however, react with deep horror at the concept of Johnny Depp playing Crowley, or James McAvoy playing Aziraphale. Those seem to be the internet's favorite choices, and for some reason they are ALL WRONG in my mind :(

(Anonymous) 2011-07-21 02:53 am (UTC)(link)
McAvoy doesn't really make sense, but I could deal with it. But I swear, if Johnny Depp comes withing 100 feet of a Good Omens script I will burn the studio down. I don't mean to kill anyone's happy, but I just cannot imagine a worse choice.

(Anonymous) 2011-07-21 04:19 am (UTC)(link)
Agreed. I know a lot of people like Depp, but I am honestly quite confused by the idea of casting him as Crowley. I don't think I've ever seen him play a role remotely like that, and while he is talented at being "quirky", "quirky" isn't what a good Crowley needs.

Your not alone, op - I don't have any dreamcasts [actually, it's fairly rare for me to have any 'dreamcasts'] - and...I honestly don't know if I want to see it turned into a movie/tv show. I mean, I know there are people who do - and if it's done right it'll fantastic but...idk. It would lose the feel of the books I think - particularly since I'm not sure how they could include the 'footnotes' in it [and still have the feel those *being* footnotes has]

(Anonymous) 2011-07-21 04:24 am (UTC)(link)
I'm cautiously optimistic. I like seeing different interpretations of the same characters and concepts -- that's why I'm in fandom, after all -- and it gives me joy to know that something I like is well-loved enough to be adapted.

(Anonymous) 2011-07-21 05:26 am (UTC)(link)
I was just speaking for myself - like I said, I know there are people who want it, and for them I hope that it does happen. I just...don't think that, for me, a movie/tv series would have the same feel that the books did. Seeing as it's one of the biggest things I loved about the books it would lose a lot of the magic for me if the feel wasn't there.

[identity profile] adlanth.livejournal.com 2011-07-21 02:37 am (UTC)(link)
Eh, it's one of very few books for I try to find my dreamcast. I usually don't visualise characters very much, much less try and find actors. And even with GO, I try not to get too serious about it for fear of being disappointed - esp. when it comes to Crowley and Aziraphale.

[identity profile] deadtree.livejournal.com 2011-07-21 04:01 am (UTC)(link)
I have honestly never thought about who would play either, except THANK GOD Robin Williams as Aziraphale never panned out. NO WAY.

(Anonymous) 2011-07-21 04:16 am (UTC)(link)
OH MY GOD I have a worse mental image now than McAvoy thank you.

(For the record, I like both actors, but I really hope they go with unknowns.)

[identity profile] mutantjules.livejournal.com 2011-07-21 04:09 am (UTC)(link)
I don't have A Dreamcast either - every time I reread it I picture different people.

[identity profile] cold-river-blue.livejournal.com 2011-07-21 06:21 am (UTC)(link)
I can never even picture them at all... I just have occasional, ephemeral glimpses of what I think they should look like, painted in very broad strokes of hair color and general cuddliness (or lack thereof).

[identity profile] robintheshrew.livejournal.com 2011-07-21 05:28 am (UTC)(link)
As much as I have actors, I don't want to see it adapted. It wouldn't translate well. Their writing is too complex

[identity profile] writerserenyty.livejournal.com 2011-07-21 06:11 am (UTC)(link)
I honestly have no clue who I' d like as Crowley or Aziraphale. For some reason the idea of dream-casting them never came to me; maybe it's just because I don't hang around in fandom for Good Omens?

[identity profile] interrobam.livejournal.com 2011-07-21 02:57 pm (UTC)(link)
I'd really want them to go with unknowns. I hate it when I get the 'hey it's that guy' feeling for characters that were originally in books and that I imagined myself. When I watched Winnie the Pooh yesterday and realized Rabbit was voiced by the Ice King it nearly broke my brain.

[identity profile] arcadiaego.livejournal.com 2011-07-21 11:04 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't. I never do for books really, and usually think other people's are ridiculous. (Especially because they're usually young and gorgeous regardless of the age or appearance of the characters.)

[identity profile] poisontea.livejournal.com 2011-07-22 12:39 am (UTC)(link)
I don't have a dreamcast either, OP, and I definitely don't think it's "self centered" or "bitchy" to not have one! As others have said, unknowns would probably be best, even if there's a few people I'd be perfectly okay seeing play Aziraphale. Stephen Fry or Anthony Stewart Head would probably do great jobs. It's just that neither of them are my "dream" Aziraphale and I wouldn't mind at all to hear they didn't get cast.

[identity profile] scripteens.livejournal.com 2011-07-28 06:04 am (UTC)(link)
Aziraphale is firmly in my head as Matthew Gray Gubler. If only he was English...
