It's normal OP. Castaway is a very emotional movie, and I applaud the film makers for being able to make us cry over a goddamn volleyball.

[identity profile] la-petite-singe.livejournal.com 2011-07-21 01:17 am (UTC)(link)
I dunno, that makes me cry too regardless of what else is going on in my life. It's just a fucking sad scene. And it's like 60% because of the music, IMO.

[identity profile] rehime.livejournal.com 2011-07-21 01:21 am (UTC)(link)
I think being able to cry at this scene says a lot, actually.

[identity profile] oflittlebrain.livejournal.com 2011-07-21 01:34 am (UTC)(link)
i remember when i was like 10 they showed this movie at my school for some reason... all the other little kids were laughing at this part and i was openly weeping. not my finest moment. man, that part depressed me for a long time.

I don't think it says anything bad about you. I think it's good to be able to be so easily moved! And this is coming from someone who's cried at an auto insurance radio commercial so... yeah... haha. At least you haven't sunk to that low ;)

[identity profile] allons-y42.livejournal.com 2011-07-21 04:31 am (UTC)(link)
I've cried at Onstar commercials on the radio! You are so not the only one.

[identity profile] zonko-rose.livejournal.com 2011-07-21 11:48 am (UTC)(link)
I cried at an advert for Calpol. I don't even remember why.

[identity profile] masterfedora.livejournal.com 2011-07-21 02:43 am (UTC)(link)
I cry thinking about this scene. You're fine.

(Anonymous) 2011-07-21 02:44 am (UTC)(link)
Oh man, that scene made me mad! DX I didn't want him to lose the volleyball! ;_;

(Anonymous) 2011-07-21 03:03 am (UTC)(link)
Who DIDN'T bawl their eyes out at that part of Castaway?

(Anonymous) 2011-07-21 04:33 am (UTC)(link)
I always thought it was very sad. I mean, I know it was a volleyball, but it was effective in seeing how crappy it was for the main character

[identity profile] cgaussie.livejournal.com 2011-07-21 04:40 am (UTC)(link)
The loss of Wilson will forever shatter my heart and make waterfalls erupt from my tear ducts. It's just the fact Wilson was all that Tom's character had to interact with, he was his friend, his confidant, his conscience, his everything and to loose him when they were finally making their escape 'together' is heart wrenching for me.

Combine the fact that it is shot beautifully, the music is superb and Tom Hank's acting truly pulls you into his world, his mind, and believe he's just witnessed the death of his only friend in the world.

God I'm tearing up just writing this comment.

[identity profile] robintheshrew.livejournal.com 2011-07-21 05:30 am (UTC)(link)
BUT IT'S SO SAD. Seriously, how a volleyball breaks my heart just says how good that movie is

[identity profile] writerserenyty.livejournal.com 2011-07-21 06:39 am (UTC)(link)
Dude, I cried too at that part. It's normal.

Though I cry a lot at movies. But that was still a really sad scene...

[identity profile] zonko-rose.livejournal.com 2011-07-21 11:46 am (UTC)(link)
Castaway makes me cry every time. I just managed to hold myself together in Bridemaids, but I think that's because I was still half laugjing from a previous scene.

[identity profile] enfeebledchi.livejournal.com 2011-07-21 03:14 pm (UTC)(link)
It's okay, OP. I cry at pretty much everything.

(Anonymous) 2011-07-21 03:51 pm (UTC)(link)
I bawl my eyes out through that entire scene in that movie. Even reading the secret alone made me choke up.

[identity profile] antialiasis.livejournal.com 2011-07-22 01:04 am (UTC)(link)
I generally find when I cry over fiction, it's in empathy with the characters, as a reaction to their reaction to what's happening, not as a straight reaction to what's happening. Or, in other words, it's not that you're in a fragile enough state to cry over a volleyball, but that the character you're empathizing with is.
