Tbh I didn't really feel anything for companion cube so I don't see how this is a secret

i completely agree and don't understand the cube thing at all

[identity profile] dethtoll.livejournal.com 2011-07-21 01:08 am (UTC)(link)
[curiousity core] what's that? oh, what's that? hey, you're the lady from the test! hi! ooh, can we go over there?
[companion cube] ... (nothing is said, for it is a fucking cube)

[identity profile] forchancookie.livejournal.com 2011-07-21 01:21 am (UTC)(link)
I was disappointed that my companion cube didn't talk! I kept expecting it to. It didn't even scream when I burned it. I felt so cheated! So yeah, easy to see how you'd get attached to a cute talking core, just like people did with Space Core. Spaaaaaaaace.

Oh man, I felt so guilty incinerating that stupid core. I wanted to keep it with me. It was so adorable!

...But I also loved the Companion Cube. ...Companion Cube/Curiosity Core? Anyone?

something i threw together i guess?

(Anonymous) 2011-07-21 03:03 am (UTC)(link)
"Ooh, what is that?

"Can you talk?

"What's your name?

"Do you know what that thing is?

"You're pretty!

"Did you see the test lady?

"Can she talk?

"How do portals work?

"I like you! Let's be friends!"

The Companion Cube felt a strange desire to clean itself of all that soot. It's not proper to present oneself in such a condition, after all.

OMG Amazing. <3

[identity profile] bride-of-lister.livejournal.com 2011-07-21 01:45 am (UTC)(link)
No one actually got super attached to the companion cube, right? Isn't the joke that Glados acts like you should be attached to it when it's just a handy cube. With it's appearance in Portal 2 being a total brick joke?

[identity profile] dethtoll.livejournal.com 2011-07-21 06:15 am (UTC)(link)
you're giving people too much credit

[identity profile] masked-creator.livejournal.com 2011-07-21 01:50 am (UTC)(link)
Sounds perfectly reasonable to me. The core at least talked.

[identity profile] kallanda-lee.livejournal.com 2011-07-21 01:54 am (UTC)(link)
...because the curiosity core is actually somewhat sentient?

[identity profile] junebug-13.livejournal.com 2011-07-21 02:33 am (UTC)(link)
I always thought the deal with the Companion Cube was that it was the one thing in all of Aperture that was even remotely on Chell's side. Or at least not actively trying to murder her. Didn't make me get attached to it, but whatever. I'd take Space and Curiosity any day!

(Anonymous) 2011-07-21 02:57 am (UTC)(link)
ME TOO. I wanted to take it with me and carry it back through all the test chambers again and listen to its adorable chatter drive me mad while GLaDOS tried to kill me.

[identity profile] billybobfred0.livejournal.com 2011-07-21 02:59 am (UTC)(link)
For me, being attached to the Companion Cube is more of a running gag than anything that actually happened.

Curiosity Core was adorable, though. :(

(Anonymous) 2011-07-21 03:05 am (UTC)(link)
The Enrichment Center reminds you that the Weighted Companion Cube will never threaten to stab you and, in fact, cannot speak. In the event that it does talk, the Enrichment Center asks that you disregard its advice.

[identity profile] rattyrayvn.livejournal.com 2011-07-21 03:07 am (UTC)(link)
Losing the cube didn't bother me either. I actually managed to strand myself without it the first time I played Portal (lol noob), and the game automatically gave me another one to try again with. I guess I saw them as expendable.

[identity profile] micromyni.livejournal.com 2011-07-21 05:35 am (UTC)(link)
I only felt bad for the cube after Portal 2 when I heard it sing.

[identity profile] babybeluga2003.livejournal.com 2011-07-21 05:44 am (UTC)(link)
You got your Cube back, though, and while a bit banged up, it was okay. I bet the Core will turn out the same. :)

[identity profile] uglynoodles.livejournal.com 2011-07-21 09:21 am (UTC)(link)
No I'm totally with you on this one. 'Where are we going? What's that?' It felt like fucking murder
Edited 2011-07-21 09:25 (UTC)

[identity profile] green-glee.livejournal.com 2011-07-21 09:55 am (UTC)(link)
'Do you smell something burning?'

[identity profile] insanenoodlyguy.livejournal.com 2011-07-21 09:59 am (UTC)(link)
But it wanted to see what was down there.

It died doing what it wanted to do...

See what was down there.

Just remember, aperture science robots* are made to feel pain. So it got to experience pain, and truly live! Be happy for it, and it's gruesome horrible suffering as it wondered why you did that to it.

*My headcanon is that aperture scientists by and large hated robots owing to their being introduced into the workplace as replacements and authority. Why would they design them to suffer otherwise?

[identity profile] azure15.livejournal.com 2011-07-21 09:51 am (UTC)(link)
I loved the companion cube just as much as the curiosity core. Especially when it sang in Portal 2.

[identity profile] expastic.livejournal.com 2011-07-21 11:19 am (UTC)(link)
Oooh, that thing has numbers on it! Oh, you're the lady from the test! Hiiii!

[identity profile] canthari.livejournal.com 2011-07-21 10:58 pm (UTC)(link)
How someone could get attached at the companion cube is beyond me, seriously, i was happy i didn't have to carry with that thing anymore. The curiosity core in the other hand, made me felt bad for a moment before incinerating.

[identity profile] hakushaku-sama.livejournal.com 2011-07-23 08:44 am (UTC)(link)
I didn't really feel anything for the companion cube. Probably because you barely spend any time with it before you're incinerating it. It just never had the time for it to turn from a volleyball into Wilson.

The curiosity core broke my heart, though. I just wanted to strap him to my back and take him with me. Fuck you GLADoS, this one's mine.
