i made the same mistake OP did. i thought it was Jason Bateman too. but that his narrator was a different 'character' than the one he plays in the show. similar to Danny Devito's narration in Matilda.

That always bothered me as a kid. I was like, "Why the fuck is Mr. Wormwood also a heartwarming narrator?! How does this make any sense?!"

...And you know what, it still bothers me.

That's what I say. Back when I didn't know who the narrator was I didn't assume it was any of the characters, since nearly ALL the episodes start off with "Michael Bluth..."
