Oh and wait, as I see this is multi-interpretable: just to make clear...how exactly are you "not comfortable". Not confortable being a slasher talking to a gay man, or not comfortable about gay men in general. If the former, he probably minds less than you. And if the latter, what amazing stunt of denial are you pulling in your head to fap to gay porn but feel uncomfortable about gay sexuality? Seriously?

Yes, because raping children is really the same as consensual sex between two adults.
And because in shota the drawings really look like kids...

I realize fantasy =/= reality

But depending of what sort of slash she's reading, it might indeed very well be graphic man-on-man action. If that turn you on, but you're not comfortable with the idea of two men so much as kissing in real life, I think you are doing a potentially harmful exercise, both to yourself and others.

And where yes, I do not want to act out most of the things I fap to, at least I'm not a hypocrite about it. And I wouldn't look at a friend funny if he, let's say, DID enjoy some bondage on a lazy Sunday afternoon...

It sounds like the OP's friend might not be aware of slash, or he is and doesn't like it because he feels it's exploiting his sexuality. So OP might be uncomfortable in an "omg what would he think of me if he knew I wrote slashfic" kind of way.

But if they're uncomfortable being around him because he's gay, yeeeeeah... that's not cool, OP :\

See, that was my first thought when reading the secret...but then I saw that some people were interpreting it in the other way, and that that could also be a possibility. (I sort of hope not, though)

Well, interpreting a secret in the most unflattering way is kind of standard practice on F!S, right? I was inclined to read it as you did, that OP was feeling uncomfortable because of what her friend might think if he knew her shameful secret.

That's how I'm reading it. I don't see it as being uncomfortable because he's gay but maybe I'm reading wrong.

I don't see it that way either. I ended up in a similar situation, though I don't typically write slash myself so I didn't feel super uncomfortable asking my friend what he thought. His answer was that it depends on how it's written.

There's a lot of het porn out there. The entire paperback romance genre is basically heterosexual porn for ladies. Do I feel super exploited that people, ladies among them, are doing it in published material? Not as much as I do when I consider actual porn. Lady porn is usually about everyone living happily ever after in a good life with a person that makes them happy. Maybe a little shallow, but not harmful. If a fic isn't just two people fuckin', but that's part of a greater story, no matter how uncomplicated or shallow, I don't really see it as exploitation.

If it is just two people fuckin' and you really like it, then just keep it to yourself around people it might make uncomfortable. It's as easy as that. It's a free country and you can read and write what you want to, but you don't necessarily have to broadcast it to everyone with eyes and ears because tact exists, too. And yes, I think there's probably too much of an obsession with slash, but homosexuality is a hot button issue with people and sometimes I think it's just fandom's way of wildly screaming its acceptance. It's not really hurting anything. It's the same thing I'd say to a heterosexual person who doesn't like porny stuff. Don't read the porny stuff. And surprise, gay people can avoid things they don't like, too.
