I get irritated too, because I was always pretty sure his point was less 'lean to the left' and more 'can we all calm down and act like reasonable adults?' Which politicians anywhere typically have an issue with doing, so that just puts him into politics more. For me it's less getting defensive than getting irritated at people who miss the point even when they watch...though I'm fairly sure a lot of people who do so don't watch.

I feel like Colbert does that a little bit more than Stewart. He seems much more likely to take a story because it's funny, whereas I feel like Stewart is more likely to take a story because it's about a conservative and funny.

Like I knew Colbert made fun of the liberals regulating happy meal toys in California, but I don't think Stewart did much with that.

Me too! I always get annoyed at people who complain about him going too easy on his conservative guests or defending the Tea Party to Arianna Huffington. He's said that he's not an enemy of conservatives and isn't an activist.
