We know Hogwarts isn't real, but I think the way that HP fans identify themselves with houses is interesting. To try to figure out where you'd be sorted is interesting, it makes you think about what you believe you are, and what you'd like to be.
I used to feel self-conscious talking about this kind of stuff with my friends because of judgmental assholes like you on the internet but I really don't give a fuck anymore. It's an intriguing concept and can be really fun for fans to think about.

movies/books/tv shows are successful because people identify with something in it, and what we can take from them says something about who we are individually and as a society.
Just because that insight/journey of self-discovery comes from a fictitious work of literature does not make the experience any less valid.
I have been reading some works on HP and Philosophy, considering HP a simple children's story is vastly undermining the depth of the work, and what can be gathered from reading it on more than just a fluff level.
