You're right. The internet is not private. In which case, if OP is so sensitive that a group of asshats snarking about OP's fanfiction is enough to induce a years-long freakout and a desire to hunt them down and inflict physical violence on them, maybe OP would be better suited to keeping their tender hotbuttons in a more private arena.

Look, I know the internet is a public place (hence my comment) and posting your work in a public place opens it up for criticism. I'm not arguing that, and I'm not really interested in getting into the completely subjective and often-pointless internet criticism etiquette argument.

I'm just boggling at people who honestly seem to think that posting in a public forum is somehow the same as privately snarking.

Because otherwise how did OP find it?
I find it highly unlikely OP somehow hacked into a series of flocked snark entries, and if it was flocked why on earth would the commenters be anon? It seems likely from the description that it was some kind of anon meme. Which is public so anonymous people can post in it.

Unless the OP comes and tells us, you're guessing. You sound kind of stupid to be going I'M SO BOGGLED PEOPLE THINK X when you're basing the trail of thought on conclusions YOU drew, not an account of what happened in full, or even conclusions other people drew.

It's a conclusion I drew because it's obvious. This isn't a blind assumption I'm making on no evidence, and to assert that only established facts are worth discussing is just silly. Not to mention that there are tons of commenters in this thread simply assuming OP went searching for the bashing thread, even though there are other likely scenarios (being linked to it, finding it in a Google search for their rare favorite pairing).
I cannot think of any likely scenario in which the OP's situation occurred in a private forum. You are welcome to offer an equally likely alternative with evidence.
If you think I'm an idiot for using Ockham's razor, I really don't know what to say to you.

But hey. Maybe the OP is a chinchilla. They never specified that they were human, it's only a logical inference based on the fact that they use language and a computer.
