Yeah, was just thinking this. Why do they even have to be in competition?

Plus, these "better than Disney" secrets always seem to group the entirety of the Disney back-catalogue together as one whole. That's 50 movies (and that's just counting the classics). I find it weird when people compare Disney princess films as if they're all exactly the same and should be judged on the same merits, let alone grouping THE ENTIRE CATALOGUE as one entity...

My thoughts exactly. It's fine if you prefer other animated films over Disney's productions, but secrets like this aren't going to convince anyone to give your fandom a shot. Anastasia is also my most favorite movie of all time, and I would hate to see anyone become turned off from it because of fans like that 8(

people constantly compare it to disney because it was heavily inspired by disney movies, as fox created it to compete with disney, during one of the strongest periods of disney's history.

i think its funny that its most often compared to the disney princess films though, as it was released the same year as hercules and has a very similar plot: the characters have always felt like an outcasts and both yearn to know more about themselves and their past, and both go through training in hope of reuniting with their family.
