I agree wholeheartedly with your point, anon. I think in Luhrmann's version, especially, you really do see the emphasis Juliet's mother and father both place on her making a good match because they themselves made one. It has little to do with how they feel about her as a child and more to do with how they feel about each other (though imo, her father acted a bit more like he cared about her than her mother did, up until she disobeyed him and refused to marry Paris. I believe her mother is seen as more selfish and self-absorbed, focused on youth and sex because she has so little else that's fulfilling in her marriage. Why else would she be flirting with Tybalt and virtually pushing Juliet to marry Paris based on the virtues of his wealth/stature, plus his sexual appeal?). In the play and in the film, as well as in another version I've seen produced by the RSC, I would agree that it's more palatable that the Montagues genuinely care for one another. Lady Montague seems to care a great deal about whether or not her husband goes out into another fight, and the tone of her argument can be interpreted that it's not only because she's weary of the fighting, but also because she feels a genuine affection for him.

....I think I basically just repeated you, but yeah, I agree. Why is this a secret, though?
