He moves like a real person, because Anastasia used heavy rotoscoping for their characters. Maybe that's your bag, and that's cool. But it's not some achievement in animation- kinda frowned upon, actually.

I think that's what the OP was getting at? Rotoscoping usually makes animated characters look awkward because we're so used to animated characters moving more fluidly and gracefully than people irl.in

Rotoscoping is just generally a bad idea- It's incredibly awkward, and IMO often detracts from the realism. Anastasia's characters are jerky and rigid at times, and I just don't think it's necessarily something to be praised. The film is so sloppy- I totally hold with people thinking it's a wonderful story, with great characters, but what with the secret a few days ago [claiming Anastasia's mediocre soundtrack as trumping every Disney film's music], and the really misinformed masses swarming in to say it's God's gift to animated films, I'm a little annoyed. It's just fact that it's not very well done, visually. It was the fledgling film of a failed animation studio venture, and it shows. Not enough money, and a lot of people who had no clue what they were doing.

Sorry if that sounded aggressive- I do like the film, but that's it. I like it. I can't love it, because it's poorly made. Mileage varying, etc.
