Then you'd be advocating something that, the way I see it, might seem like a good idea at first blush but ultimately has a LOT of flaws.

Yeah, it would be nice if we could just keep all the bad parents from having kids. But it's not really realistic.

How would you determine who's not fit to breed? Not everyone is as self-aware or as honest as you, so going by people's self-assessments wouldn't work. Going by people's behavior before having kids wouldn't work, either - some people are really irresponsible and get their asses in gear after their kids are born. And some nice, responsible people in every other respect are actually very bad parents.

Some people who would be bad parents in their youth really shape up as they get older. You can't always tell whether or not someone would be a good parent till they are one. Sometimes you can, but not always.

And how would you enforce these restrictions, anyway? I can't really see any feasible way to do that.

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for getting kids the fuck away like the moron in 19. But I don't know if "breeding restrictions" is really a viable way to do that.
