I feel sorry for all the people who got their secrets posted while LJ was essentially down for the count. But YEA I'm hoping this up time means that LJ is truly up now.

39) I think our own OC's get an automatic boost over other peoples simply by benefit that by making them, we're already emotionally invested in them. We are also already emotionally invested in the canon characters, because the canon sold us on them. But other people's OCs? We don't know them from jack, and we distrust them.

TBH -- I get this way in canon too. If they introduce a new major character after the main cast is established, I am highly distrustful of that character for a few episodes. Then I kind of grudgingly get used to them, and I learn to like them. But it takes a while for me to warm up.

I don't think in fanfic we generally give that time to warm up to an OC, unless they are snuck in through the backdoor by being useful to the plot in a way that doesn't upstage the other characters.

It does suck a bit. I posted several secrets this week and accidentally all ended up on these two days. Yesterday mine was like THE VERY LAST ONE, grrrr. And I have a couple here today. Oh well :(

I often do, but that depends on how many days though. And in any case, you're much less likely to still be able to interact with someone then.

I don't. Secrets are fun, but there's always more of them. The comments pretty much dry up the moment the new bunch of secrets gets put out.

Holy hell yes this so much. It is also pretty much exclusively in this context that I ever use "canon Sue" (if the character worked out badly and made the show jump the shark or something). I don't see how a character can be a Sue if the setting and characters are established at the same time as that character, since I feel the defining characteristic of the Sue is warping the established setting/characters.
