I've heard so much about this Financial Crisis Gangbang and I have no idea what the hell it is, despite being in the Hetalia fandom. What is it? From what I've heard it's like some comic or something of all the nations raping America or something due to some financial crisis? I can't see how people would enjoy reading that - that sounds horrifying. Who the hell would make something like that? o_o

Basically it's a comic where the other members of the G8 rape America and blame him for the financial crisis. I can see where it'd hit some peoples kinks, but the constant sequels and AUs of it have gotten to the point of you are beating a dead horse level.

This again.
You know, this thing was a trainwreck. The people possibly fapping to it...well, carry on. That's your kink. The fill itself? No. So much no. The characterization is utter shit, and it turns everyone into monsters for the sake of the kink. It turns sex into a punishment, reinforces the idea that America deserved it for basically giving everyone the flu (as, for you non-Hetalia fans, economic trouble=nations becoming ill). It's horrible, trivializing, and I really wish it would just go away.

Oh girl, sometimes I am afraid the Hetalia fandom is famous for stuff like this and I get so depressed... it is terrible how so magnificent characters are ruined for the sake of this sort of things. Everybody can think of the Financial Crisis Gangbang comic what they want. Personally, it was not my kink, but on the other hand, I didn't think it was as bad as some people portray it.
The sequels, however, are boring and uncreative.

Maybe it's because I've never read that comic, but how is the phenomenon of fans glorifying a rape fic any different than the phenomenon of fans glorifying rape in canon? Not in Hetalia canon, obviously, but take some BL mangas: rape galore, and tons of fans to glorify it and write fics about it. Not that I personally understand this glorification of rape in any case, but it seems to me to be a rather common phenomenon, so what makes it different in this case?

like idk if you've ever read/watched hentai involving a gangbang before (doubtful since you're pearl-clutching like this) but this is exactly like every other doujin out there, word-for-word, except replace "misaki-chan" with "alfred" and "cheating" with "financial crisis" or whatever
and i usually get off to that kind of thing but when i read the FCG comic i was like "I CAN'T FAP TO THIS" lol. it's simply not very good.

I used to be in the Hetalia fandom and from my experience people were pretty divided on it. There were people who did ask for spin-offs and sequels but a good portion were also fed up with it and disliked the original.

Personally, I never had the guts to check it out. From what I heard the art was very good but everyone was a little OOC. I think as a comic in of itself and a reply to a kink meme request, the your kink is not my kink rule should be applied, but I agree that the legacy it spawned is a little weird.

To your information, OP, you grossly generalize things. I stated once that what always annoyed me about FCGB is not the comic itself (although I never liked it) but the sheer amount of prequels/sequels/AUs it generated. I hoped the hype died down some time ago, but unfortunately it's back. I know for sure that there are many people in the fandom who think similiarly, which means that NO, not THE WHOLE fandom likes it and "glorifies" it.

Idek, I sort of liked the comic until the sappy aftercare bit with Canada. The dialogue was typo-ridden and cliched, but the art was pretty good, and as far as kink meme fills go it was "epic" for what it was. As a contributor for a different kink meme, I could only dream of having the attention span to finish something like that, so I have a bit of admiration for the artist in that respect.

I don't see how the comic merits sequels and fics based off it, though.

What bugs me the most though is that...y'know, there are other countries that are affected by the financial crisis. There's Greece, Spain, Ireland etc.

I know that rape is a kink and that both hentai and yaoi/yuri features it. I read Junjou Romantica and even I have to admit that the first sex scene between Misaki and Usagi definitely counts as rape in my mind. The things is though that I can sorta "excuse" and "forget" it in the canon, because it is a theme that features a lot in yaoi. The event in itself doesn't bother me as much. It's when the fans glorify it that I really feel sick to my stomach.
