In the original books, Alice's life in the real world wasn't bad. She was just a little girl who falls asleep while in a field with her sister who is reading a 'pointless' book (one without pictures, according to Alice). There isn't any indication she has a bad life. The new Disney movie, on the other hand, makes it seem as though she does.

I think it's pretty normal, to be honest. If I got offered the chance to go to a magical world or go on a magical adventure I'd be gone in a heartbeat. I love my friends and family, but I would for sure go.

Me too. Anything, really. If I saw the door to Wonderland, the TARDIS, a mysterious letter addressed to me, a door cut between worlds (His Dark Materials! Imagine, meeting your dæmon!) and just left it alone, I'm not sure I could ever really forgive myself.

I got that Alice was bored, and I loved the books (I reread dozens of times), but I always got the idea Wonderland and Looking Glass Land were a pretty scary and unpleasant experience for Alice all round, and she was always trying to get out of it. It always seemed slightly more on the nightmare end of the spectrum, with everything always going wrong and Alice always being berated for something, and the innocent and harmless endlessly suffering, often because of something Alice did.

How hard is it to credit the gosh darned artist???
