And what specifically about that is such a bad idea for the show or for them? Are we imagining her getting pregnant and never being able to be married?

I just had people with infidelity squick in mind. Personally, I would think the whole forbidden love thing between Bates and Anna as more of a draw for audiences. It's one of the more intriguing relationships in the show.

Although, my mind still doesn't completely trust Bates for some reason. I feel line there are still some unanswered questions when it comes to past, and his indirect but possessive response to Molesley inquiring about whether or not Anna was single made me raise an eyebrow, especially since he IS still married. (Aww, heck. I still ship it though. lol)

A lot of stuff Bates does makes me raise an eyebrow. He hides the truth from the people who care about him, he doesn't report Thomas's theft though he is stealing from the man who gave Bates a good job when most would turn him away because of his limp, he doesn't defend himself when accused and acts like a martyr when it almost gets him fired. And then, as you say, he lays claim to a woman he can't have because he's already married.

I used to really like Bates, but that's wained as the list of incidents he's utterly mishandled gets longer. And I do really like Anna, which means I just cannot ship them.
