I don't think courage had anything to do with that. It was an accident. It was a tragic accident. I'm not apologizing for his dad, but all Yuri wanted to do was protect his mother. Despite the violence, I think his dad was still his hero considering that he latched onto his teachings from when he was younger and now carries them through into his adult life.

I'm sorry for whatever trauma you went through, OP. I can understand identifying with Lunatic because of that - although I guess his character arc will be geared toward realizing that fighting crime with crime isn't the answer. Anyway, good luck.

Yeah, I was steadily but slowly coming to like Lunatic with time, but that episode pushed him squarely into the "characters I like" territory along with the other heroes.

Anyway, don't feel too bad about not having done what Yuri did, because it's kind of unrealistic that there were no consequences. I imagine courts are typically lenient on kids who attack abusive parents, but you can't know it for sure, and even still there are other consequences to consider. Yuri still lives haunted by his father.
There's sort of a romanticization in fiction of horrible, physical retribution on abusive parents, and it's not the only answer and it's probably not the best answer (though I can understand why it would be tempting as hell).

If you're still in a bad situation or your parent still is, please contact help. It also may not be too late to pursue justice through the police for what happened in the past; I don't know your situation. Regardless I hope you can come to peace with yourself and what happened.
