My mum recently got over cancer, but that moment still really tugged on my heartstrings because I knew I was 'this' close to losing her.

Oh anon, I think they probably know. I think it would be quite easy to make the connection between tears and the ghost of a mother. Either way, I hope you find the peace Harry eventually did. If J.K. Rowling wrote about anything, it was courage, but not necessarily an absence of pain.

I feel bad for you, OP, and I'm sorry for your loss. But I completely understand why you broke down, and hopefully so do your friends. Honestly, I'd feel bad too if I was in their shoes and apologize you into oblivion for it, but it's not like they went out of their way to upset you on purpose.

2) My mom passed 2 years ago, and that bit made me sob for the same reasons. <3

The book came out just a few months after I lost my mom to cancer. The scene in the forest made me cry harder than anything in any book or movie ever had. Four years later and the movie still made me miss her so much. <3

I'm really sorry to hear about your loss. Although... it seems like your friends would be able to figure it out? It's not such a leap to make, you know what I mean? And I can't imagine anyone would judge you for it. *shrug*

My mother died a little over 6 months ago, and yes, I bawled my eyes out when this scene happened. The friend I saw the movie with heard me cry at this scene, and what I got for it was a hug. I'm sure your friends understand why you cried, I am also sure they'll be there for you if you need to talk about it. You're not alone OP.

Had your friends read the books? Because that movie is one of the LAST things I would take someone in need of a distraction after the death of a parent to see. That scene made ME cry, and I have nothing like you reasons.

I'm so sorry for your loss, anon. At that moment, I too felt a pang of sadness - my mom passed away this past January, and my dad passed away over two years ago, and I miss them to this day. It won't be easy, but you will heal, and you will be able to keep carrying on.

My father died just over a month ago and I'm still having a hard time with it. I'll be honest, when I got to that scene I was a real mess, but I was so frustrated by how the film was ignoring Harry's dad, as if he was someone unimportant. All I could think was that if I were in Harry's position and got to see my dad again I'd spend as much time talking to him as I could, and not, y'know, brush him off as an afterthought...

Mom died two years ago, and there are times I still have a difficult time watching things like this, so I know how you feel. (My sister and I went to see "Year One" after Mom's funeral, which was stupid, silly fun - those movies actually DO have a purpose, who knew?)

If they're good friends, they'll understand and sympathize. No one could ever blame you for being reminded of your own mother in that situation. You shouldn't feel guilty at all, OP. ♥

My brother died six years ago and I still sobbed like a baby when they showed the Weasley's grieving over Fred. My friend had to lean over and give me hug before I calmed down.

As someone whose Mom died five years ago... I guess I just want to say, I'm sorry. There are a lot of good, heartfelt feelings heading your way in these comments, and know that you're not alone. You're in the roughest part, but know that things are going to be okay.

And know, what Lilly said is true for your Mom too.
