It's OP's headcanon; you don't have to agree with it, but there's no need to be harsh about it.

The Pokemon games don't have a lot of character development, so there's nothing wrong with filling in the blanks like this.

sometimes, I see all of the pokemon games as a variation of this? maybe the trauma stems from different... situations, but that the journey is a necessary healing portion for the character (main or rival) to go through, and it's why I love the pokemon games so much, though I'd probably never go into more detail as to why to others.
