(Anonymous) 2011-07-30 01:12 am (UTC)(link)Wasn't there, like, a 'cool alternative girl' who constantly had an unlit cigarette hanging out of her mouth and her school kept trying to make her get rid of it but she wasn't technically breaking any rules because she wasn't really smoking~
And there was a hot guy who was blind? And somebody else who had amnesia? Or am I getting mixed up now?!
Either way, I totally regret getting rid of these books because OH GOD memories. Although I do see them pop up in charity shops and car boots every so often.
Also, to answer your question, these books are pretty old by young adult lit standards and most likely haven't dated well. Unless they get a tv adaptation (a la Vampire Diaries) I can't imagine them having a very active fandom. You could always try setting up your own comm...

They would not have dated well. Nina needs an iPod. Her sister Claire used some chat program in the 7th book that sounds horrendously outdated, though presumably it was bang up to date in 1996 or whenever. And I don't remember a single mobile phone, though I also don't recall a situation where one would have made anything easier either.
