It fixes a plot hole in the book. A lot of wizards come from muggle/half-muggle families, many live in cities see muggles all the time. It makes sense for the racist purebloods faction to shun muggle clothes, as they do in the films, but it makes no sense that wizards in the book 'don't know how to wear muggle clothes' and it makes no sense for someone like Hermione to not dress like a normal person (or Ron, when he goes to visit his in-laws, etc etc).

Don't forget, in the books, younger-aged wizards could dress muggle-style with no problems. It was the older wizards that were set in their ways. Like Archie, who insisted his long flowery nightgown was perfectly fine.

Not sure about that. I think you're right about Hermione and Ron. Muggleborns are used to muggle clothes. But I think other non prejudiced purebloods also would want to dress with robes and that stuff. It's their culture. Why would they want to dress like muggles in the magical world?

I definitely agree there. A few years back I went to a formal do in Japan, and all of the girls had to wear kimonos. I felt so out of place because that wasn't my culture. It felt like I was both shitting on Japan's culture for being a white girl dressing in Japanese clothes, and awkward because I myself wasn't familiar with wearing such clothing.
