I think brunettes end up being stereotyped by... well, not being stereotyped. They end up getting the traits that the blondes and redheads don't get. Blondes are dumb, so brunettes are brainy; redheads are sexy so brunettes are "frumpy" or "boring".

This. Aerith was freaking awesome.

On a somewhat related note, I always found it interesting that the really pretty girl in the pink dress was the perky tomboy, and the (also freaking gorgeous, but this is Squeenix, they don't do ugly) bruiser who beats the crap outta things with her fists was the girly girl. Nice little contrast there. :)
