It's a shame the US version won't let you marry the girls, I would have taken Griffin and Muffy in different saves.

I'm pretty sure that even in the Japanese girl version, the only girls you could marry become best friends with were the 4 magical girls. If they would some day make a Harvest Moon where you can just select your gender at the start, and all the bachelors/bachelorettes are romanceable, I would be so happy.

Well, in the Wii versions you can select your gender, but you have to be hetero regardless, which is kind of a bummer, but it's better than nothing.
