MMV, but I don't take interviews as canon. I'm not saying that they definitely weren't happy, just that, based on what we got in the books, all we know is how many kids they each had and that Neville is a teacher. Anything else is open to interpretation.

Interviews are word of god. Word of god is canon, whether you like it or not.

That's just one opinion, though. Haven't you heard of "death of the author?" Plenty of people adhere to the school of thought which says that the only things which count as "canon" would strictly be limited to what is contained within the main text (be it book, movie, TV series, what have you).

I'm not saying that the whole "word of god" thing isn't a valid way to look at things. A lot of people think like you do, and so it's fair for people to think that information from interviews counts as canon.

But "word of god is canon, whether you like it or not?" Please.

This, exactly. Neither is right or wrong, but it's not exactly a new concept to say that you only take what's actually written in canon to be canon.

The other thing is "fanon still exists so get the fuck over it." You do not need canon to validate what you like.

I take an interview with the writer as canon. Like it or not, SHE CREATED THEM AND OWNS THEM. Fans can play in the sandbox and make up fanon, but canon is like gravity, with the creator as the Big Bang.
