Oh good, at least I'm not crazy in finding Ginny annoying, I was thinking that I managed to read the books wrong.

I personally loved Ginny, but she did have some flaws. They all did, really.
Anon, was your gripe with Ginny vs. Hermione about the Sectumsempra spell? Because yeah, I understand being mad that Ginny sniped at Hermione, but Hermione really *did* come off as being more 'I told you so' about the book rather than worrying that Draco was trying to seriously hurt Harry. I personally just thought it was a bad moment for both girls. =\

I don't think it was praise so much as it was being glad he had something strong to defend himself with since Malfoy was going straight to the Crucio curse. Also, re-reading the scene where they did have a spat, Hermione was being a little nit because she was more upset that the book was giving Harry an advantage in Potions that she didn't have, which is when Ginny called her out to get over it.
"Are you telling me, " said Hermione,"that you're going to go back--?"
"And get the book? Yeah, I am," said Harry forcefully. "Listen, without the Prince, I'd never have won the Felix Felicis. I'd never have known how to save Ron from poisoning, I'd never have--"
"--got a reputation for Potions brilliance that you don't deserve," said Hermione nastily.
No seriously, pull out pg. 532 and look at it--Hermione wasn't in the right either, here. It's only after being called out by Ginny that she starts to backtrack and say she's glad Harry's ok, but the spell was bad because it got him banned from Quidditch and that somehow destroyed Gryffindor's chances at Quidditch--which is also an indirect slap to the rest of the Gryffindor team, who have been able to get along without him. Hermione may have been right about the spell being bad, no one was contesting that (not even Ginny)--but that wasn't why Hermione was upset. She was pissed about being beaten by Harry in Potions.
So no, neither girl comes off with a particularly spotless image after this scene. =\
(I understand. I'm certain there's more than one Hermione fan miffed about this particular scene--that's why I made sure to pull out my book instead of trusting my hazy memory. I'm on a re-reading spree anyhow, but I'm currently on book 5, lol)

(Anonymous) 2011-07-31 07:48 pm (UTC)(link)Hermione was nagging Harry abt the book, abt marks and then tried to use Quidditch to get Ginny on her side saying she should be upset with Harry because of what it did to their chances in the match. So not only did she say Ginny should be upset with Harry because of Quidditch, she then insulted Ron and Ginny saying they couldn't win without Harry - when they had done exactly that the year before. So much faith in her friends huh?
So really it was Hermione that was questioning someone's concern over a friend and being a bitch and not a good friend cause she insulted everyone there. I'm sorry but Hermione was quite frankly an uber bitch there and deserved more than Ginny gave her - who the fuck cares abt marks and being right at a time like that? Hermione who goes about it in a very nasty way. There are no words to describe how much I hate her in that scene.
Also, this is something I wish the Hermione fans would acknowledge, but what Ginny said is exactly the kind of stuff Hermione has said to others in the past - so why can't Hermione be called out when she's being a twit?
