I'm honestly not too fussed about S6 so far, but I guess we'll see what the second half brings. I did like S5's plot so I'm willing to hope, but honestly since I don't really care about River to begin with it seems like S6 is just doomed not to click much with me.

I do agree with you though, I don't really feel as connected emotionally with the companions as I did in RTD's era and I think you've put the finger on my problem with it. It just feels like they're pawns at times to explain the plot and give reactions to its cleverness.
