It's great that you might not give two shits about who ends up with who, but for people in the fandom who spent so much time dedicated to and invested in certain pairings, watching a series where a large portion of it hinges on the success on a rival pairing is like a slap in the face. To continue your hotel analogy, it would be like if one of of the hotel managers knocks on your door after you get comfortable and tells you "sorry, wrong room lol" and then sends you to stay in a cramped, musty little craphole of a room. Overdramatic? Absolutely, but emotions clearly aren't always rational.

I would have preferred no romance, especially since what we got (imo) was terrible. TBH I thought the finale as a whole (except for Zuko and Katara vs. Azula) was completely awful. Forget shipping; the Turle Ex Machina was like going into that wonderful hotel room only to find that someone left a smelly turd in your toilet and didn't flush.
