From what I've seen, most of them seem really excited now that the preview is out.

Personally, I'm not planning on watching it because I'm not thrilled. I don't really trust them after season three (primarily for plot-related stuff, not that it wasn't my ship) and the previews seem to have removed everything I liked from the original series.

What about the original series do you believe has been removed? (I'm not trying to start an argument or anything, I'm just curious)

I really liked that they were young kids that acted like young kids (as opposed to the small adults most animes featured). I also don't care for steampunk, and the environments in this were a little too grey for my tastes. When I watched the trailer from CC it just looked like a generic anime. It also seemed to take itself very seriously.

I mean if you like it, that's fine, but for me it's just not that appealing.

I can understand that, though I'm looking forward to it myself (But I'm not really a big fan of how much more modern the cities look either, to be honest)

That was a big problem.

I hate to sound like I'm butthurt, but I didn't like the way they handled romance in the series, regardless of the fact that it wasn't my preferred pairing. The end pairings and parts of the epilogue just felt really unnaturally and added at the end in ways that didn't really make sense in terms of storytelling. The one that I'd always point to is Ty Lee said in the Beach episode that she wanted to be appreciated as an individual, not part of a matching set, and then she goes off to join the Kyoshi warriors? It just made no sense to me.

At the end of the day, I wanted a good finale, and I feel like I didn't get that. The way they handled the romances was part of that, but the pairings really weren't (a pairing I wanted would have just been icing on the cake).

I don't think you sound butthurt. I think a lot of people's main complaint about ATLA was the way the romances were handled. I was pretty iffy on the finale for that reason too, but also because I'm still just ever so bitter about the Zuko's mom situation.

After Zuko was like "Hey dick bag, where's mom >:|" it kind of seemed like they were setting up for a future movie or something where Zuko goes on an awesome road trip to find his mom and maybe ~discover himself~ some more or something, buuuut there wasn't.

I'm just gonna copy and paste something I wrote the other day.

Personally, I have nothing but confidence in the writers. The reason why the show went downhill around the third season was due to a lot of executive meddling (for example, Combustion Man only exists because they wanted another action figure to sell, and the network wanted more "stand alone" (aka "filler) episodes). Still, considering the restrictions that were placed upon them, the writers did an awesome job.

If the writers had their way, the romance probably would have been handled better simply because the pacing would have been better. I also seem to remember Bryke saying that they would have more freedom on the Korra project.

That's actually comforting. Because I think it's obvious there were places they wanted to go and stuff they wanted to show, but had their proverbial hands tied by pants-shitting scared Nick execs.

I've said it before, but the whole show stinks of demographic bipolarism, particularly where the characters were concerned. Sometimes it's meant for older teens, sometimes for younger ones. Ergh.

I just don't particularly care about Korra. Don't have cable, maybe will download, but eh. *shrugs* Got my own projects anyways and Dance with Dragons is being a big distraction to boot.

A lot of animation tends to do that because of the whole Age Ghetto thing. They know kids are going to watch it regardless, but they wanna rope the older bunch into it, too, because they have more money to spend on the advertisers' stuff.

I'll probably download it rather than catch it on TV, too, so I can avoid commercials and be able to make icons and stuff if I feel inclined. I don't have a Nielsen box so it's not like I'm contributing to ratings anyway.

This I did not know. Goddammit Nickelodeon, this is why we can't have nice things.

Glad to hear they'll have more freedom this time around, I think this story will really blossom because of it.

...I still call him Sparky Sparky Boom Man.

That's really helpful to know. And makes me even more excited for Korra!
