This, this, a thousand times this. ♥ and thanks for reminding me that I ought to reread those. Harry Potter entertained me, but the Prydain books moved me, too, and taught me a lot about writing.

Same. Gwydion's speech about Morgant and Ellydir at the end of The Black Cauldron makes me bawl like a toddler every time I read it. Also, Rhun's death in The High King ;_;

Every year, I challenge myself to make it through all of The High King without crying. To this day, I have never, ever succeeded. If Rhun's death doesn't do me in, then either Coll's or Achren's will.

Seriously. I re-read the books recently, and some of the messages are a bit heavy-handed, but damn if they still aren't awesome. Some of the speeches are just brilliant.
