Different people have different bodies. If I don't change my underwear three times a day I get a UTI. I get them for no reason sometimes. So you better bet I make sure I pee after sex each time (most of the time I even bathe afterward)

Honestly I think it's kind of gross that people have sex and don't clean up afterward, what do you do, just put your panties back on and stew in your own juices for the rest of the day?

OP is a married woman who never had a UTI until after becoming sexually active. Peeing after sex is just about the only thing to prevent her from getting them, short of not having sex at all!

Yeah, it depends on your personal mix of acidity and flora. I almost never get them, even if I fall asleep immediately after sex (knock wood). A friend of mine can't have sex during the last half of her cycle without getting one unless she's really careful.

Some people are more prone to it than others. And once someone gets it, I guarantee you they will most likely be extremely careful and take all steps necessary to avoid it in the future lol.

More than being perplexed that it *does not always* comes up in fics, I am more surprised that it *never* comes up in fics. It's a common problem. Yes, it is fiction, but talented authors tend to inject the unpleasant realities into a fantasy setting.

Eh, probably for the same reason we don't describe the character's dumps. It's not sexy, it's not necessary, and while it's part of life, it's usually not important to the plot.

I'd say this was why. In an 'experienced man/virgin young girl' type fic I read once, he tells the girl she should go to the bathroom after they have sex, adding to the feeling of his experience vs her naivety. So in that case it was relevent to the story, and this is the only fic where I've seen it bought up.

Yeah, this is the first I've heard of the idea, and I've been sexually active for over 20 years. I guess it depends on the person. I think I've had maybe two or three UTI's in my life. Maybe Anon's just super prone to them.

I boggled at the OP, personally. I was like, "WTF are you even talking about? Who actually goes to the bathroom right after sex? What a mood-killer." I'm quite surprised by this, since I can't remember the last time I was caught unaware by some sort of sex-related information that's supposedly common (and not as rare as unicorns).

I had a full-blown UTI when I was 11 once, that's it.

Of course, I also drink shitloads of cranberry juice, so it may just be that I'm constantly flushing my system anyway.
