So, what I'm saying is: it pretty much comes out to the same thing, Sirius finding James or Snape finding Lily -- it's basically the same emotional impact.

Thank you. I get it a little bit more when you explain it like that. I honestly don't know about Sirius that much but saying his reaction to James' death would be more poignant than Snape's over Lily's rubbed me the wrong way because I have this knee jerk dislike of comparing one character's traits/angst/childhood trauma to another's. It kind of implies one character is better than another and that is the one thing about fandom that bugs me more than anything else. Thank you for taking the time to explain it in a way I could understand.

So Sirius is to James what Ron is to Harry, too, right? Cuz then I REALLY get it.

Switch it around, it's more like Sirius is to James is what Harry is to Ron. Read the books, honey, the movies really don't have the scope that the books do on all levels.
If you like one story about one chosen one who has to deal with big scary destiny, as well as big scary growing up stuff, you might like another. This one just happens to be about a British teenage wizard.

Switch it around

Yeah, I thought about that on my way to work this morning.

And I've gotten the feeling, based on this thread, that the books are hella more informative than the movie and maybe one day I'll pick up the first book. I'm always impressed by detailed world building and JKR seems to have put a lot of thought and effort into the backstories of dead and main characters and family ties between the heroes and villains. So maybe...when there's more time and I'm not still so enamoured by BtVS/AtS.

Well Buffy is a great thing to be in love with so I get that. But anyway, the whole reason I really got into Harry Potter at first was because of how much he reminded me of Buffy and all the parallels I could make, there are a lot.
