Harry acted like an ass to him upon their first meeting though. If Harry can get over it, why can't you?

It really annoys me when people say this, because Harry had no intention of hating Snape or crossing him, until Snape started abusing his power and attempting to humiliate Harry in his first potions class. Snape did not exactly hold back in showing how much he hated Harry. Harry responded in kind because he was not a doormat and he would not take it lying down, and I think it's entirely justified.

Yes, clearly Harry's the better man here. He was able to see the good Snape had done, inspire of the bad, not excusing it. So I repeat if Harry can get over it, why can't you?
