She wasn't perfect, but she was definitely one of the 'noble' and 'admirable' characters you were supposed to admire. Added to that, Jack pulled a lot of crazy stunts that would never work in real life, but he's doing it in a series of movies that feature things like the living dead, so I think a certain amount of leeway can be given. On the other hand, Elizabeth often comes across like a modern woman shoved into a corset and, iirc, is very rarely called out on it. Obviously there were liberated women during the period, but it feels like she should have encountered a lot more opposition about it than she did.

Of course, at the end of the day, this is just my opinion and I'm sure there are plenty of people who would disagree with it.
