I think where much of the argument stems from is that just because the Japanese pronounce his name "Raito," it doesn't mean that his name is actually Light. For example, I have a Japanese friend named Veronica. The Japanese pronunciation is "beronika," but that doesn't make her name Beronika, even though she is Japanese. They aren't the same name. Does that make sense? (I have a tendency to ramble.)
