When did transhumanism go mainstream? I used to only have this argument after game nights when we ran out of pizza and Mountain Dew.

Anyway, I'm reasonably sure that a sophont with out emotions of some sort is a contradiction in terms. Logic is just a system; for a being, you have to at least have desires, and that implies at least content/distress.

I think the Cybermen are the most frightening Doctor Who villains because of what they'd do to us.

Yeah, sure, maybe living forever doesn't sound to bad... I could see future inventions, how humanity evolves, how the universe ends, etc. And I guess at least the Cybermen don't fight among each other the way regular humans do.

But man, a life without emotions.... what's the point? I couldn't get excited over new discoveries. I couldn't be happy. I couldn't be sad either, but I've been wickedly depressed and I wouldn't give that up if it meant I had to give up being passionate about things too.

This sounds random but is related:

Last night I went to a concert and the woman's bathroom was divided into rows with people waiting at each row, and there were moments where the next women in line down multiple rows would move off towards the stalls at the same time and was so creepily reminiscent of people waiting to be assimilated that it freaked me out.

anyway.

I would not want to be a cyberman, even if sometimes it would be nice to get rid of emotions (re: stuck in an unrequited love situation at the 'mo) it would also mean the destruction of your personality and everything that makes you YOU, I feel kind of sorry for you anon.

I'm not even sure that the cybermen are genuinely emotionless, if the doctor can hack 'em some collective self-awareness with five seconds of jiggery-pokery. seems more like a programmed dissociation, and you don't need to remove your brain to manage that.
