do it for the baby jesus

Not doing it for baby jesus, but you still get your wish. I just couldn't find the right colour for that text...

If you have photoshop (might be able to do it in GIMP?) go to layer options and select 'stroke' and you can get nice black-outlined or white-outlined text so you can use whateverthefuck colour.

Or in anything with layers, just put a 50% transparency layer of white or black and write over that.

Or pick less contrasting/detailed background art.

is png better? I know I sound like a total dumbass, but I genuinely don't know.

Yeah, .jpgs are smaller, but compress the image in a way that lessens contrast and clarity SEVERELY, like the purple text in this secret, unless you have a program that controls how high the quality can be, which most people don't. PNGs preserve the image quality and 99% of fandom secrets (600 x 600 graphic files) can be hosted comfortably in PNG form.

PNG is the way to go.
