I couldn't have said it better. There's nothing to be embarrassed about.

Only the fetishization of an entire culture. Other than that, though, it's nothing to be embarrassed about.

This. Maybe it's because Japan and its culture means a lot to me (married to a Japanese man, used to live in Japan, etc) but I get upset that there are people like the Psychoneko girls who are fetishizing Japan as some sort of cat-eared/maid-wearing/anime-obsessed weaboo dream land, instead of actually teaching anime fans about real language and culture norms of Japan.

They can still be silly and have fun. But they don't have to spread the bullshit to viewers who don't know any better.
