I don't really see the issue with the suit. Of course, I'm assuming that it isn't the finished version. After all, it looks more like the outfit of a cat burglar than catwoman.

The recent movies don't really care about being any sort of form of "iconic" Batman though, so I wouldn't be surprised if she doesn't get a real cat woman suit. I can't even be mad about it because I'm really not surprised.

I really don't like Nolan's Batman in general though, I'm going to just wait around until they reboot it.

This. When they revealed this costume, I merely shrugged it off. The costumes in the Nolanverse haven't exactly been all that accurate or spectacular.

I'm also waiting out a reboot.

I agree with you. On the other hand, Superman's costume is going to be changing because the original costume's rights revert to the creators' heirs in 2013. So, iconic doesn't equal permanent.

There was a recent interview where Anne Hathaway responded to the fan's outcry about the suit. She says that we've only seen 1/10th of what the suit is in the movie, so there is still hope for a more Catwomany suit.

I get why you're mad but I guess I'm not because I already expected this. And at least it's tasteful. I do agree it is incredibly stupid to say the catsuit doesn't work in the real world and that the batsuit does.

To be honest I care/am worried far more about her characterization in the movie. If he gets that right I'll be happy. Now that I am worried about -- I've loved Selina Kyle/Catwoman since I was a child so she's a really important character for me.

Whether or not they can get away with a more catlike catsuit depends entirely on the explination, IMO, which we're not going to know about until we see the movie.

The batsuit is the iconic batsuit (or close enough to it) but in universe it's supposed to be over the top and theatrical. It's part of BW's psychological intimidation (you can argue about whether it would actually be intimidating to see a guy dressed up as a bat, but that's the intention that's stated in BB). So if the catsuit is very catlike, what are her reasons? I'll have no problem with it either way, honestly, just as long as it makes sense in context.

I don't mind the outfit. It's generic but it's realistic. Cut her hair. CUT IT ALL OFF. Seriously I thought she was Black Widow. Do SOMETHING to make her stand out.

I can't deal with the idea that the costume Anne Hathaway is going to be wearing in The Dark Knight Rises is supposed to be realistic or more realistic than other Catwoman costumes. For one thing, it has heels. For another, almost all of her face and her hair is on show.

But there is a difference between Catwoman and Batman's costumes. Catwoman is supposed to be a cat burglar and only that. So, why should she have ears? There is no reason to have a literal "Catwoman" costume. However, Bruce made his costume to look bat-like to give him an otherworldly, scary appeal in order to intimidate his foes. So, his costume has an excuse to being less practical. Again, Selina's does not.

I don't care about the outfit (kay, I DO, but not much). I care about how they're gonna write her. If the things she says and the way she acts and her rapport with Bruce says SELINA KYLE to me, she can walk around in a purple batsuit for all I give a fuck. Her characterization is legit all I'm worrying about with this movie.

I agree, anon. I adore Selina and she's my favorite member of the Batfamily (and always has been, mo matter what they do to her in canon), but I always found her black catsuit to be one of the most practical and realistic in, like.. comics. As a whole. It's form-fitting so it's not unweildy but it's also not something ridiculous like a bra and underwear, it's black since she's active at night, and things like her claws and boots and cowl are actually functional. She's always my example when I debate the whole 'Female characters CAN be dressed practically AND still be sexy!' argument. I mean, and without the cat-ness of it, it's still appropriate for someone in her line of 'work.'

At the end of the day, I mean.. Bruce is still dressed like a bat. Sometimes it just makes me lol a little.

I was a bit disapointed she didn'y have the mask because, let's be honest, just wearing something over your eyes does not make you impervious to being recognized, your nose and hair and other parts of your head can all be pretty distinguishable, just wearing goggles isn't going to cut it. But I'm not going to throw some bitch fit over it, I'm still really fucking excited for this movie.

Ugh, I'm starting to get worried about Nolan's Catwoman. Chances are that shot was either from the end of the movie or the very beginning, but still.

This could be one costume design and there could be more after. IIRC Selina is a thief before she decides to be Catwoman. It's only after she sees Batman in the flesh escaping some building that she feels inspired. She finds his masked alter ego interesting because of how people seem to react to it. That sparks her interest to create her own and get in on the game. She wants to be feared and known for her robberies, but of course she doesn't want to get caught.

This shot could be pre-Catwoman and just Selina Kyle, master thief. At least that's what I'm hoping for. It seems silly to have characters in previous movies get their moment in an iconic costume (Batman, Joker, Two-Face, Scarecrow) and not include hers. I have a feeling Nolan will treat Selina Kyle in the same sort of way he did with Harvey Dent. Which is most of scenes are as Selina Kyle and maybe 2/3 or 3/4 of the way through she'll be known as Catwoman.

Selina's outfit (which Anne Hathaway has publically stated is NOT the complete and final costume) has been piled on mercilessly, while Bane's costume looks like he's wearing underpants and a jockstrap on his face and it barely gets a mention. :(
