I gotta say, I really don't understand what you mean. Euris is a character who is only ever seen in memories and documents of the past, because she's already gone at the time the series starts. I don't really understand how that constitutes "so much to work with"; I don't understand why it seems like an example of fridging to you or what you would have had happen instead.

Admittedly YMMV kinda thing, maybe it's mostly because I write fic for LE, but her death was the motivation for pretty much everything Alex did in the series and yet we know almost nothing about her. She didn't get any lines, what little info I could find about her comes from supplemental material and not the series it's self. I just really wish we had gotten something more besides "They had some kind of really deep romantic relationship, and now she's dead." It just seems kind of cheep to me to introduce even a postmortem character who seems to have so much potential to be someone interesting, and then never make her anything more than a pretty face, with a tragic end. Even Hamilcar and George got lines.

It's funny, I was almost going to say in my first reply that a good fic writer could certainly make Euris into a deeper, rounded character ... but that it would not necessarily have been a good thing to have made her that deeper character in the original series. Other writers may disagree with me, but I feel that you need to adjust the "roundness" of the characters of your characters to the roles they play in the story; if you make characters who just aren't going to play roles in the subsequent events too interesting, you accidentally create Chekov-guns that stay firmly on the mantel, to the reader's frustration. It's a hard balance.
