Aw, Rarity is my favourite, I didn't know that was such a rare (ha!) thing.

I did not initially care for Rarity: I didn't DISlike her, she just didn't compare to my favourites (Twilight, Fluttershy, Spike, and Pinkie Pie)--I'd say that A Dog and Pony Show is where she won me over a lot, and now I appreciate her previous appearances much more, too. I think I'm not alone in all of that, either.

Heh, I actually went through something similar with Twilight. I never disliked her, she was just kind of 'there.' It was only late in the season (around 'A Bird in the Hoof,' I think) that I started to appreciate her. Now when I look back there's a kind of long suffering yet earnest air about her that I really like, and an understated (comparatively speaking!) humor to her that's unique to the character.

I think it helps that she, like Rarity, gets beaten with the moral stick a lot, so any faults she has generally aren't left unaddressed.

Yeah, I've seen a lot of Rarity hate, which weirds me out because I adore her.

Apparently being a typical girly girl is HORRIBLE, especially in a show for girls ;)

She's my favorite. I'm not in the fandom so I don't know how hated she is, but reading this sure made me a little sad. Now if she was a shallow, arrogant fashionista stereotype I could understand it, but she isn't. She's just as friendly and caring as the other ponies, she's just interested in fashion and pretty things *shrugs*

That episode in which she made all these dresses for her friends? It moved me a little.

I love Rarity too! She's such a big sweetheart. I could understand people disliking her if she was your standard 'rich bitch' cliche' or something (like an adult Diamond Tiara) but she represents the Spirit of Generosity: she's very considerate of her friends and does wonderful things for them. The episode where she made those beautiful dresses for her friends and they all gave her crap about it? I wanted to smack all of them for being so rude! I loved her in the 'Diamond Dog' episode too for showing that you don't have to be a tomboy or a hardass to be a cool female character; a concept that a lot of fandoms in general can't seem to grasp.

Funny enough I like Rainbow Dash and Fluttershy the least, and they seem to be the most popular.
