I have to wonder if you, and me and this commenter (http://fandomsecrets.livejournal.com/739744.html?thread=468127136#t468127136) are watching the same show.

Cuz... Sociopath? No. Just no. Hyperactive and a little oblivious? Yes.

And Gilda? She killed her with kindness. That was the whole point. All the pranks? Were the oh so cool Rainbow Dash's, not Pinkie's.

ETA: Not to mention that the party was being planned BEFORE Pinkie flipped out. The point of the episode was to trust the people who care about you and to give them the benefit of the doubt.

Rainbow Dash may have planned them, but Pinky did a wink wink nudge nudge to Fluttershy that she was going to "take care of" Gilda with the pranks, so she is utterly NOT innocent there. Not to mention Gilda was already pissed off because every time she tried to spend time with Rainbow Dash, Pinkie burst in interrupting them and trying to be the center of attention. When you're already mad, it's harder to laugh off a prank.

Oh, and the psychopath (psychopath and sociopath are both used interchangeably to refer to dissocial personality disorder ) thing is also from utter episodes. When Rarity and Fluttershy are both miserable about the modelling thing and confiding in Twilight, not once does Pinky show any concern for their feelings. She is far more invested in making sure Twilight doesn't tell any secrets than in the fact two of her friends are miserable. She wouldn't even have to share secrets to help! Just throw a party to celebrate Fluttershy's modelling success and shove them in a room together and get them to talk it out.

I think you really need to look up the definition of a psychopath/sociopath. She's still concerned about her friends-- she doesn't want to see Twilight fuck it up with Rarity, Spike, or Fluttershy by giving away something that they trusted her with and trusted her not to reveal to anyone else, she's just, like I said above, oblivious. Sure, she's focusing on the wrong thing, but that hardly makes her a sociopath, I mean, it's not like she's stealing from them or taking advantage of them or anything. She wasn't getting anything out of keeping Twilight from divulging the secrets, she was watching out for Twilight, but she was too focused on one thing and oblivious to another.

For example, she's one of the first to show remorse when Twilight finally comes out and admits she feels pressured because she only has two tickets to the galloping gala. Rainbow Dash (who I also adore) is really the one to show any kind of disregard for her friend's feelings in that episode.

Honestly, if we're going to sit here and perform armchair psychiatry on fictional talking technicolor ponies, I would label her more as ADHD/ADD than sociopath. She obviously has emotions, an ability for empathy, and feels love for her friends and consideration when she is aware of a need for consideration, but her mind is way too fast for her sometimes, and in its speed it misses important cues and sometimes jumps to conclusions or focuses on the wrong thing.

I'm going to agree with you and add a little bit on to the keeping secrets bit.

A lot of the girls I knew and interacted with when I was younger (preteen/adolescent age) were obsessed with telling and keeping secrets. If you couldn't keep one, no matter how big or small it was, you were a bad friend. Period. Even if revealing it would have done everyone a lot of good or it was something dreadful that was bringing the kid down outside of school, like a divorce. That's just how things worked. You were trusted with a secret and then trusted not to tell that secret. If you did, then you betrayed whomever it was who told you the secret, and you were shunned as a bad friend. It was that simple.

Seeing as the show is primarily aimed at young girls and this behavior of secret-sharing versus secret-keeping seems to be fairly common, I'd say Pinkie's reactions were appropriate. She's not a psychopath or whatever; she comes across to me as (rather comically) trying to keep Twilight in the good graces of the other two by urging her to keep her promise in not revealing either of the other girls' secrets and thus breaking their confidence in her.

Exactly. How is trying to keep a friend from coming across as a bad friend psychopathic? What did Pinkie have to gain by keeping Twilight from giving away the secrets? But she thought Twilight would lose a lot by giving away the secrets, and she was watching out for her. Hardly the actions of a psychopath.
